Services

At Animal Eye Care of Pennsylvania, we provide advanced medical and surgical eye care for dogs, cats, and exotic pets. Each patient receives a personalized evaluation and treatment plan designed to preserve vision, relieve pain, and improve quality of life.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

A veterinary ophthalmology exam is a detailed evaluation of your pet’s eyes performed by a board-certified specialist. These exams help detect and treat both common and complex eye diseases before they cause lasting damage.

History and Initial Assessment: We begin by reviewing your pet’s medical history and observing their eyes, eyelids, and overall comfort.

Vision & Reflex Testing: Light and movement tests help assess visual response.

Tear Production: A Schirmer tear test measures tear quantity to detect dry eye.

Eye Pressure (IOP): Numbing drops allow safe measurement of intraocular pressure to check for glaucoma.

Corneal Stain Tests: A mild dye reveals ulcers, scratches, or foreign material.

Slit Lamp Examination: A specialized microscope evaluates the cornea, iris, and lens in detail.

Retinal Exam: The back of the eye, including the retina and optic nerve, is inspected for inflammation, detachment, or degeneration. If needed, we may perform additional diagnostic or genetic tests to fully understand your pet’s condition.

OFA Eye Certification (CAER Exams)

Dr. Mundy is authorized to perform OFA Companion Animal Eye Registry (CAER) Exams, which help breeders identify and reduce inherited eye diseases. These exams are conducted by board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists (DACVO) and reported to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for breed-wide research and certification.

Diagnostics

We perform a wide range of diagnostic tests and imaging—similar to those used in human medicine—to identify and monitor eye diseases accurately.

These may include:

•    Bloodwork and lab testing

•    Ocular ultrasounds

•    Tear film and corneal function analysis

•    Retinal imaging and electroretinography

•    Radiographs (X-rays) or MRI when systemic causes are suspected

Accurate diagnostics allow for early detection, precise treatment, and improved long-term outcomes for your pet.
